Whether your boat is a new-build or the conversion from an internal combustion engine (ICE) your requirements are unlikely to be exactly similar to those of anyone else:

• You will want to specify the type of motor you require and also its power.
• You will need to consider battery types and capacity - this latter being mainly dependent upon the distance and speed that you will want to travel between charges
• You will have specific requirements regarding battery charging - mains power, on-board generator, solar panels, and just possibly fuel cell
• There will also be a requirement to charge your 'ancillaries' battery (12v or 24v depending upon your existing electrics) using a converter or cross-charger. You may even wish to make provision for on-board mains voltage AC appliances
