Battery Types
The choice of battery is highly dependent on how you use your boat, we do not therefore recommend any specific battery type or size without carefully discussing your particular requirements with you.
Wet Lead-Acid
The most common and familiar type, although you must specify the 'traction' type. They come as the 'typical' 12 volt, the monoblock 6 volt, or (best, but most expensive) the two volt cell. These batteries require watering and will gas under charging.
Gel and Mat Lead-Acid
Similar in output to wet lead-acid but do not require water top-up and do not gas. We have used AGM (Absorbed Glass-fibre Mat) batteries in safety-critical situations to very good effect.
Lithium-Ion
Just lately Lithium-Ion batteries have made an important breakthrough into the motive/traction field and whilst these are still very expensive they have performance and longevity way beyond lead-acid.
We also stock a range of small portable Lithium batteries that are designed to be worn on your belt - providing personal power for lights and other small equipment
